   We had a great year last year with a 100% passing rate for both the Math and Science TAKS Test and I am looking forward to teaching your students this year.  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns,  I am available for conferences or friendly chats from 10:40 to 12:00 P.M.  I am also available before and after school.  I believe your student’s education is a team effort between both parents and teachers.  Feel free to contact me anytime you feel the need by phone,  in person, or email.  I look forward to meeting you.

Below is a tentative schedule of lessons and concepts for the week. 

Week of October 12th to Oct 16th

MATH

Exploring Prime and Composite numbers, Common Factors, Finding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF), Multiples, Finding the Least Common Multiple (LCM), and Prime Factorization.

TEST – TUESDAY OCTOBER 20th, 2009

Solving Word Problems using the BUC method. (Bracket the question, Underline key words, and Circle important numbers.)

SCIENCE

Matter and Changes of State, Science Skills Labs – Measurement – Length, Volume, Mass, Density, Physical Properties and Chemical Properties, Note Taking. The Scientific Method.  Lab Report Writing, Making Observations, Writing a Hypothesis.

Students will finish presenting their PowerPoint presentations describing the features of atoms, a brief history describing the discovery of the atom and its parts along with the scientist that played a critical role.

SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

Balsa Wood Bridge Building Project – Competition for Science Olympiad

Science and Engineering

This class is hands-on lab and research intensive and will emphasise creative thinking, following directions, and teamwork to create projects for a chance to compete in Science Olympiad.
